GKN Charity Sportive

GKN Charity Sportive

Taking place on Saturday 10th September, this Charity Sportive is limited to 250 riders.

There will be a choice of  THREE Isle of Wight routes ranging from  a 50 km tour of the East Wight up to a lung busting Island wide 115 km route.  The event also has a Virtual Ride which allows you to support the Charity but can be completed anywhere in the World.

All Island routes will closely follow the ‘Tour of Britain’ route taken on by the pro-riders the following day.

Through the support of GKN Aerospace all the proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the Mountbatten Hospice, so not only will you be trail blazing for the professional Tour of Britain riders you will also be providing vital funds to a worthwhile charity.

Riders for the 115 km and 100 km start at 07:00, the 50 km at 09:00 and the Family Ride at 10:00.   You will have until 18:00 the same day to complete your chosen distance.  All event routes will start and finish at the GKN Osborne Works site where activities and refreshments will be available.

There will be multiple feed stations along the route, which due to the Tour of Britain ride the following day will not be signposted but maps  will be available at registration and GPX files to download.

With just over a week to go until the GKN Charity Sportive Mountbatten Isle of Wight we are delighted to announce the support of TWO local Island businesses.
The Isle of Wight Farm Shop and Isle of Wight Meat Co. will be stocking the feed stations this year to keep you going for the whole distance.
You will be able to try delicious fresh produce that has been handmade right here on the Isle of Wight! https://isleofwightfarmshop.co.uk/

As well as providing mobile support on event day Adrian’s Bike Shop have a limited number of ‘hire-cycles’ available.

The hire fleet include ‘hybrids’, ‘road bikes’ and ‘E-bikes’, for advice and a full list of available cycles;  call Adrian directly to discuss.

About the Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

This year, we are marking forty-five years of the Island’s ‘hospice story’ with a series of commemorative events including the GKN Charity Sportive.

Our 45th anniversary year will celebrate specialist end-of-life care for people of the Isle of Wight, which began in 1977 with the opening of Southampton’s Countess Mountbatten Hospice, now known as  Mountbatten Hampshire.

Islanders travelled to Southampton for hospice care for five years, before Mountbatten Isle of Wight opened in 1982.

Through fund raising and volunteering  we are able to help more people than ever before. Thanks to you, we are caring for more people on the Isle of Wight than ever before in their own homes, on our hospice ward and in the local hospital. Thanks to you, together we can continue to be there when you need us most. Thank you.

Ticket Notes:

GKN have kindly supported the event, enabling all ticket proceeds to go to Mountbatten Isle of Wight (Registered Charity No. 1039086)

  • The minimum Adult Ride ticket is £20:00, however, if you are able, we encourage you to select a higher priced ADULT RIDE ticket with all the extra proceeds going to the charity.

  • Junior (Under 18) ride tickets are available at £10.00 each.

  • Family Fun Day Ride tickets are available and although this event is free we encourage you, if you can, to make a donation to the Mountbatten Hospice.

  • ‘Donation Only’ tickets allow you to contribute a donation to the charity with or  without attending the event.  The ticket is set to £10.00, so for example to donate £50, you just need to add 5 tickets to your basket.

  • ‘Virtual Sportive’ tickets allow you to complete a ride of similar distance wherever you wish, maybe your favourite mountain stage? maybe a tour of your local area?  You can choose, simply complete the distance and log the ride(s) to the GKN Charity Sportive Strava Club page and know that you have taken part and helped the charity too.  The ticket is set to £10.00, but to donate more ie. £50, you just need to add 5 tickets to your basket.

***All registered participants will receive pre-event communications detailing exact start location, parking availability etc.***
