PRE-ENTRY HAS NOW CLOSED. ON THE DAY ENTRY IS AVAILABLE!
Setting off at sunset and running into the night, the Night Runner Trail Challenge is a non-timed, checkpoint adventure. With a range of distances from 5km to 35km the event has something for all abilities, and with friendly checkpoints and a party atmosphere at the finish line, this night time trail running adventure will provide all participants with a great evening’s entertainment.
The Night Runner forms a part of The Trail Festival, held at the Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre on Shorwells’ Cheverton Farm, Isle of Wight.
Equipped with a basic map and stamp card, participants will navigate their way from checkpoint to checkpoint, collecting stamps as they go. Each distance has a required amount of stamps to be collected, before participants make their way back to the final checkpoint and the finish line.
What to expect…
TERRAIN
The off-road courses cover chalk trails, farm tracks and bridleways, with some small sections of open grassland. Every checkpoint is on a main track to make it easy to spot. The terrain around the venue is quite hilly, and we have designed each course to get tougher with every increase in distance. As a non-timed event, we recommend that all participants complete the course at a level of exertion that they are comfortable with.
NAVIGATION
Please note: Participants will use the provided map to navigate the course. The course is designed to be simple to navigate, but please be aware that it is NOT physically marked with signage or arrows. All distances are approximate and may be slightly modified in accordance with the conditions of the terrain on the day.
EQUIPMENT
It is your responsibility as a competitor to ensure you are properly equipped to take on the course.
A torch and/or head torch for each competitor is mandatory. Trail running shoes or fell running shoes are advised. For the 10km and 20km events, we also strongly advise that you carry a mobile phone, windproof/waterproof jacket and some snack food and water.
Clothing is personal choice, however please consider that parts of the course are on open downland and shelter may be limited. It will be cold, and inclement weather is a real possibility, so please come equipped for a range of potential weather scenarios. You will get wet and muddy, so wear running kit that you don’t mind getting dirty or ruined, and bring a full change of warm clothes for after the event. We recommend wearing reflective outerwear.
